A blue police van hovers around before coming to a halt near the Best Bakery where 14 people had been killed in the 2002 riots. "Our boys will be picked up by the police shortly," mumbles a shopkeeper, who runs a telephone booth.

He steps out and his wife yells, "You just come inside, don''t stand out."

One of the accused, Ravi Rajaram Chauhan, is asked by the police to get into the van.

Other residents step out only when they are convinced that the police is only asking the 21 accused to remain present at the police station.

Vadodara police commissioner Sudhir Sinha said, "Under section 68 of the Bombay Police Act, I had asked the 21 accused to remain present at the Panigate police station. Teams had been sent to Hanuman Tekri. But, the message could be conveyed to only four of the accused. The others could have gone to their workplace. They would also be informed and appropriate action would be taken only after an order comes from the court."

Chauhan''s parents, Malti and Rajaram, are despondent. "What are we supposed to say when the Supreme Court has pronounced its order? We can only wish that everything goes well with our son."

The whole action goes unnoticed by only one family, which still resides in the ill-fated bakery building. Yasmin banu, Zahira''s estranged sister-in-law and her mother have been staying at the bakery after renovating a part of it. "Why are you here again? We have no news," says Yasmin. She offers no comment on the Supreme Court judgement. "We don''t have anything to do with the case. It''s their (Zahira and her mother''s) botheration. If we are called by the court then we will go to give our statement," states Yasmin.

<formid=526372></formid=526372>
